The Gateway Church of Christ originated in August of 1999. The members moved from the Westwood Lake Church of Christ from the SW 40th Street area, buying property in this current location. The church’s preacher was Frank Matherly. The two elders serving this congregation were John Weetman and Frank Matherly. The church first met in what is today the fellowship hall until the current building was completed. The building was built by Harris & Schroeder Construction, with Jimmy and Roland both being members of the church. Since then, the church has had several different preachers and elders leading the congregation.
The church has held events and programs to help the members grow spiritually and as a reach out to help the community. These programs include Vacation Bible School, First Responder’s Meals, school supplies collection for local children, support for missionary works, and a food pantry for members and community needs. Our latest partnership is with the University of Miami Pediatric Mobile, which serves children in the community with no resources for medical care.
All are welcome to visit at any time for our Bible classes and worship service to share in God’s love.
